Two Packing Tips For Your Move

About Me
Understanding The Moving Process

A few years ago, I decided that I needed to stop trying to live in a home that I couldn't afford. I was tired of always trying to make the mortgage when I really couldn't afford it anymore. I decided that instead of ignoring the issue, I needed to put my home up for sale and focus on moving and storage. I found a great storage facility where I could stash things that wouldn't fit into my apartment, and I also worked with a great company that offered help with moving. It was amazing to be free of that financial burden. This blog is for anyone wondering about starting over.

Packing your possessions for a long distance move can be a stressful task due to the amount of work that this can take. However, it is critical for you to make sure to keep your possessions safe from the bumps and extreme conditions that the items may face in the moving truck. To this end, it is important for you to make sure to utilize the following couple of tips to help your possessions avoid some of the more common sources of damage.

Use Styrofoam And Paper To Keep Your Plates Safe

Your plates can be especially vulnerable to damage during a move because you will likely need to keep them packed together, but they can easily collide and shatter. Fortunately, there are some relatively simple steps that you can take to keep your plates safe. To help prevent the plates from scraping against each other, you should wrap them in white paper. Make sure to only use blank paper to prevent ink from rubbing off onto the plates. For an additional layer of protection, you should place at least two styrofoam plates between your normal dishes. This will help to absorb the impacts if the plates bang into each other.

Place Silica Gel Packets In The Boxes With Electronic Devices

When your boxes are in the moving truck, they can be exposed to extreme temperatures and humidity levels. This can make it possible for condensation to form on the boxes, which can seriously damage your electronic items. Fortunately, you can drastically reduce the risk of this happening by placing silica gel packets in these boxes. This gel will absorb much of the moisture in the air, which will prevent the condensation from being able to form on the boxes. While this gel can be extremely effective, you should make sure to keep these packets out of reach of pets and children because the silica can be toxic if it is ingested.

One of the most difficult aspects of moving is packing your possessions in a manner that will keep them safe. For those with limited experience moving, it can be easy to make mistakes that can put their possessions at risk of suffering damage. By appreciating the benefits of styrofoam plates and blank paper for packing dishes as well as using silica gel packets to protect electronics from condensation, you will be in a far better position to ensure that your possessions arrive at your new home in the best condition possible.
